From the Chair

In February 2005, the Women's Aquatic Network, together with Conservation International, hosted Jack Sobel, Director of Strategic Conservation Science and Policy at The Ocean Conservancy and Linda Glover & Sylvia Earle of Conservation International's Global Marine Program in the presentation of two recently published books: Marine Reserves: A Guide to Science, Design, and Use by Jack Sobel and Craig Dahlgren & Defying Ocean's End: An Agenda for Action by Linda Glover and Sylvia Earle. Both books capture the urgency behind developing a global agenda for action as our oceans cry out for help. Jack presented some of the existing challenges and resulting benefits of marine reserves while Linda and Sylvia recommended comprehensive strategies that incorporate the use of management tools like MPA networks to help reverse the decline in health of the world's oceans. It was a great event!
